The practical details
Questions about Skootr.
What is Skootr?
Skootr is an AI service for coding, writing, research, and automation. It runs on our US-based hardware. The planned subscriptions include unlimited usage for a flat monthly price, with capacity reserved for each customer.
Can I sign up today?
You can join the waitlist. Skootr is currently in private testing with invited testers. We will announce the public launch by email. Joining is free and does not reserve service or guarantee a start date.
What does unlimited usage mean?
There is no per-token bill or periodic request quota. Run as many requests as you need, one at a time, within your plan's context limit. A second request sent while the first is running may receive a busy response.
What does context mean?
Context is the information the AI can work with in a single request: your instructions, files, tool information, conversation, and its answer. It is measured in tokens, which are pieces of words. A 100K plan allows 100,000 tokens, plus the extra buffer described below.
Which plan should I choose?
We recommend 100K as a starting point for everyday work. Choose 64K for focused tasks with less source material, or 150K or 200K when you need more files or conversation in one request. Larger plans add context; all plans run one request at a time.
What does reserved capacity include?
We reserve capacity for your requests on shared hardware, even while you are not using it. Your plan includes a set context size and one active request at a time. It does not include a whole dedicated GPU or a fixed response-speed guarantee.
What is the extra 10K buffer?
Each plan includes 10,000 additional tokens above its stated context size. This gives your agent room to summarize older conversation content as it approaches the limit. The agent still needs to manage its context; requests beyond the buffer are rejected.
What does Sidecar do?
Sidecar is our included terminal agent. It reads files, makes code changes, and runs tests. It saves your sessions, shows how much context you are using, and summarizes older conversation content when needed.
Can I connect my own tools?
Skootr provides an OpenAI-compatible chat completions API for compatible coding tools and custom automations. We are refining client support with testers. Setup instructions are provided directly to invited testers; the public launch setup is not final yet.
What is Maxi?
Maxi is our browser assistant, built on Sidecar. It keeps conversations and lets you follow tasks in your browser. It is in preview, with broader availability still to come.
What model does Skootr use?
Our own quantization of Qwen 3.8 27B. It supports everyday responses, reasoning mode, image input, and tool calling. We may upgrade the model and will announce changes to customers. Plans are based on context size.
Do you keep my prompts or responses?
We process them to generate a response, but do not retain them or use them for training. We run the AI on Skootr-operated hardware in the US. Sidecar and other clients can keep conversation history separately. The privacy page explains website and signup information.
How do founder invitations work?
Choose the optional founder and access updates on the signup form. Founder offers are sent privately and receive priority over the general waitlist. They include twelve months of service from activation, followed by $10 per month off for the next twelve months. Your invitation will explain the full offer before you decide.
When would I pay?
Joining the waitlist is free and does not start a subscription. Before any payment, your offer will explain the plan, price, start date, cancellation, and refund terms.
Can I leave the mailing list?
Yes. Reply to a Skootr email or contact [email protected]. Founder and access updates are optional. We do not automatically add existing launch-only subscribers to those updates.
